In short

MarkDown One is a Markdown editor. Your documents are yours and they stay on your device: the application has no account, no sign-in, no sync and no server of its own to put them on.

There is no advertising, no tracking, no analytics and no crash reporting of any kind in this application. No third-party SDK collects anything from it — the only ones present are Apple's and Google's purchase frameworks, which run when you buy or restore MarkDown One Pro and at no other time. We do not sell personal information, and there is no newsletter or mailing list to be added to.

The application sends data away from your device in exactly one case that we control, and you start it yourself: when you press Send in Help › Contact the Editor…

A. Your documents, and everything else you make

Nothing in this section ever leaves your device, and we never see any of it.

MarkDown One reads and writes files you choose, in the places you choose. It also keeps a small amount of its own state so that it can reopen where you left off.

WhatWhere it is kept
Your documents, projects, images and exports Wherever you saved them
Your preferences — theme, language, editor and preview settings, export defaults The platform's standard preference store on your device
Your open tabs and unsaved work, so a crash or a quit does not lose it The application's own support folder on your device
Your list of recent files and folders The same folder
Permissions you have granted to folders (macOS and iOS security-scoped bookmarks; Android SAF grants) The same folder
Publishing templates and profiles you create The same folder
Your MarkDown One Pro licence file, if you activated one The same folder

Concretely, the application's own folder is the standard per-application support directory: ~/Library/Application Support/… on macOS, the application data folder on Windows, and the private application directory on Android and iOS. On macOS, iOS and iPadOS it is inside the operating system's sandbox, which means no other application can read it.

We have no copy of any of it. There is no cloud, no backup service and no account behind MarkDown One. If you delete the application, this data goes with it; if your device is backed up by iCloud, Google or Windows Backup, that backup is between you and them.

The application does not read your documents for any purpose other than showing, editing, converting and exporting them at your request. Nothing is scanned, indexed or uploaded.

B. Buying MarkDown One Pro

MarkDown One has a free edition and a paid one, MarkDown One Pro. When in-app purchases are offered through the store your platform uses — the App Store on iPhone, iPad and macOS, or Google Play on Android — the purchase happens entirely inside Apple's or Google's own framework.

We never see your payment details, and we do not receive your name or your e-mail address from the store. What MarkDown One asks for and receives is a single fact: whether this account owns MarkDown One Pro. It uses that fact to unlock the Pro features and nothing else. Restoring a purchase asks the same question again and gets the same kind of answer.

Apple and Google act as the sellers of record and handle your payment data under their own privacy policies:

MarkDown One Pro can also be activated with a licence file. That file is verified on your device, offline. Nothing about it is sent anywhere; the application never contacts a licence server, because there is none.

C. Writing to the editor — the one thing we receive

This is the only part of MarkDown One that sends data to a service we operate, and it happens only when you press Send in Help › Contact the Editor…

What is sent

Always, when you send a report:

Only if you leave “Attach technical information” ticked — it is on by default and you can turn it off and still send the report:

Only if you choose to type one into the optional field headed “Your email (optional)”:

Each report also carries a random identifier generated for that one send, used so that a report retried after a network failure does not arrive twice. It is not an installation or device identifier: it is created fresh, kept nowhere, and two reports from you share nothing.

What is never sent

The application does not send, and has no facility for sending:

This is not a filter applied to a larger collection. There is no code in MarkDown One that gathers any of it: the report is assembled from the facts listed above and the words you wrote, and there is nowhere in it to put anything else.

The optional e-mail address

The field is headed optional and it is exactly that. Leave it empty and your report is sent without it, and we will have no way to identify you or to reply.

If you fill it in, your address is used for one thing: replying to the report you just sent. It becomes the reply address on the e-mail your report arrives as, and it appears in that e-mail beside what you wrote.

It is never used for marketing, never added to a mailing list or newsletter, never sold, and never shared with anyone beyond the processors named below. It does not create an account and there is nothing to sign up to — MarkDown One has no accounts at all. The application does not remember it: it is not saved on your device, not filled in for you next time, and gone when the form closes. Each report carries only the address you typed on it.

Where it goes, and who handles it

MarkDown One  —HTTPS→  Cloudflare Workers  →  Resend  →  our inbox

Both act as processors on our behalf and only for this purpose. The service is reached over HTTPS; nothing is sent in clear text.

As with any service reached over the internet, the host sees the network address your request came from. It is used only to limit abuse — the service counts requests and refuses too many from one place — and it is not stored by us, not written into the e-mail, and not linked to your report.

What is written down

The service keeps a short technical record of each request: the time, the reference it generated, the category, the platform, whether you attached technical information, and whether it succeeded.

It does not record your message, your e-mail address, your technical information or your network address.

How long we keep it

Feedback and support requests are retained only for as long as necessary to process and follow up the request, and for no longer than 24 months, unless a longer retention period is required by law. After that they are deleted, and your address is deleted with them. You can ask for yours to be deleted sooner — see section F.

In practice that means one mailbox. Your report arrives as an e-mail, with your address on it if you gave one, and it is kept there and in whatever is needed to answer it. There is no ticket system and no database of reports behind this: the service that receives a report turns it into an e-mail and keeps none of it.

The reference

Every accepted report is given a reference like FB-7H2K9Q4M, shown to you when it is sent. It identifies your report and nothing else; it is not linked to you and it grants nothing. Quote it if you write again.

D. Connections your own document causes

Two things can make MarkDown One contact a server that is neither ours nor a store's. Both are driven by the content you are working on, and neither sends us anything.

Every other export — HTML, PDF, EPUB — works entirely offline.

E. Children

MarkDown One is a text editor. It is not directed at children, it collects no personal data from anyone by default, and it has no social, messaging or profile features.

F. Your rights, and how to use them

Since the only personal data we can hold is an e-mail address you chose to send us — attached to a report you chose to send — the practical position is simple:

Depending on where you live you may have further rights under the GDPR, the UK GDPR, the CCPA or an equivalent law. Where consent is the basis for processing, it is the act of pressing Send — and, for your address, the act of typing it.

We do not sell personal information, and we never have.

G. Changes to this policy

If this policy changes materially, the new version will carry a new date at the top and will be available at this same address before the change takes effect.

H. Data controller, and how to reach us

MarkDown One is published by an independent developer under the name Belksiri. Belksiri is the name that developer publishes under; it is not a registered company, and there is no legal entity of that name.

Country: France
Contact: mboti.dev@gmail.com

That address is the way to reach the data controller, for a question about this policy as much as for a request under section F. No postal address is published for this version; where one is required by law or asked for by a supervisory authority, it is supplied on request to the address above.
